At work, inside burning buildings, Capt. Caleb Holt lives by the old firefighter’s adage: Never leave your partner behind. At home, in the cooling embers of his marriage, he lives by his own rules. After seven years of marriage, Caleb and Catherine Holt have drifted so far apart that Catherine wishes she had never married. Neither one understands the pressures the other faces–he as firefighter and she as the public relations director of a hospital. Regular arguments over jobs, finances, housework, and outside interests have readied them both to move on to something with more sparks. Capitanul Caleb Holt este un pompier care isi iubeste meseria, dar care incepe sa aiba probleme in casnicie. El si sotia lui Catherine sunt casatoriti de 7 ani, dar in ultimul timp certurile legate de cariera, bani sau treburile zilnice au reusit sa indeparteze cuplul odata atat de fericit. In momentul in care cei doi decid sa divorteze, tatal lui Caleb, John, ii face acestuia o propunere neobisnuita : sa ia parte la experimentul de 40 de zile, numit The Love Dare si sa faca o ultima incercare de a-si salva casnicia. Faptul ca propunerea venita este legata de noua credinta a parintilor sai il face pe Caleb sa reconsidere aceasta optiune, dar se decide in final sa o accepte. Din nefericire, Catherine respinge incercarile de impacare ale sotului ei, iar Caleb il intreaba atunci pe tatal sau de ce sa mai iubeasca o femeie care refuza sa ii acorde vreo sansa. John ii raspunde ca aceasta se aseamana perfect cu dragostea Lui Dumnezeu pentru toti oamenii. Acum, cu putin ajutor divin, barbatul care era renumit pentru numarul mare de vieti pe care le-a salvat, trebuie sa fie un erou pentru persoana care inseamna cel mai mult pentru el - sotia lui.
